Saturday Farmers Market

From fostering healthier eating habits to supporting local communities and sustainable agriculture, a visit to the Saturday Farmers Market in January sets a positive tone for the year ahead. Is getting active or experimenting in the kitchen on your new year’s resolution list? Here are a few ways how a visit to the Saturday Farmers Market can align with your new year’s goals:

  1. Stock up on healthy food: The Saturday Farmers Market offers an abundance of fresh, seasonal produce in January. Stock up on delicious and nutrient-rich superfoods like carrots, beets, leafy greens, black garlic, aronia berries and Ontario-grown ginger.
  2. Support local agriculture: By visiting the farmers market, you’re directly contributing to the local economy. Your purchases help sustain small-scale farmers, promote sustainable practices and reduce the carbon footprint associated with transporting food across long distances.
  3. Try new recipes: At the Saturday Farmers Market, you’ll find unique, seasonal produce that can inspire creativity in the kitchen. Take advantage of this opportunity to explore diverse recipes and cooking methods, incorporating these fresh finds into your meals. May we suggest giving celeriac, rutabaga or kohlrabi a try?
  4. Embrace sustainability: With the introduction of our reusable dishware program at our Saturday Farmers Market, visitors have the opportunity to minimize single-use plastic waste while enjoying delicious meals. Small, everyday choices—like bringing your own bags, borrowing a reusable coffee cup from Muuse or returning packaging to vendors for reuse—can collectively add up to big impacts.
  5. Engage in physical activity: A visit to the Saturday Farmers Market is a great way to get active! Come walk around our cozy indoor space and explore the diverse range of vendor stalls. Combine this visit with a brisk hike on our trails or bring your skates and glide onto the most magical outdoor ice skating rink in Toronto.

The new year is a rewarding time to visit the Saturday Farmers Market regardless of your resolutions. As we indulge in this season’s culinary pleasures, let’s also savour the moments that nourish our souls—the moments of connection, gratitude, and togetherness.
