Salmon Ravine Walk

The fall is a busy and wondrous time as migratory species prepare for their long and challenging journey ahead to their destinations. Some species take flight and others swim upstream to spawn. Join Naturalists Lee Earl and Evergreen’s April Nicolle on Wednesday October 6 to learn about and celebrate the great salmon migration that takes place in the Don River, one of the most urbanized rivers systems in Canada.

The actual timing of when salmon migrate is largely dependent on weather, including rainfall and temperature. The question of ‘When?' is largely up to the salmon, so cross your fingers and toes that they choose to be active in migration during our walk.

We'll begin at Evergreen Brick Works in front of the Watershed Wall and walk along the Bayview Multi Use lane towards Pottery Road Bridge where we'll look for signs of salmon swimming up stream.

Biography: Lee Earl is an avid naturalist and explorer of ravine spaces. From her work at the Pine Project, apprenticing at Earthtracks Outdoor School and guest naturalist with Evergreen, she gets to engage with habitats and people from across Ontario.  Lee loves birds, mammal tracking, wild edibles and discovering her human place within these ecosystem connections. A certified wildlife tracker and outdoor school mentor for over 12 years, Lee loves working with people and getting excited about this beautiful planet.

Location: Evergreen Brick Works, 550 Bayview Ave, Toronto, ON, meet in front of the Watershed Wall

Time: Wednesday, October 6,  5:30 pm -7:00 pm
