Our City, Our Spaces: Tour and Panel Discussion

        Our City, Our Spaces

How can we make our cities great places to live, work, and play? Our cities flourish when we design them for the needs and interests of our communities.

Mid-sized cities have a unique trait – many are full of underutilized physical assets such as vacant storefronts, abandoned factories, or old post offices that can be used by and for the community. Leaders in mid-sized cities have started applying new approaches to reanimating, reinvigorating and innovating in these spaces.

Join us on January 30, 2018 for a tour of some of Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus buildings. Explore a former public library, bank and hotel, all repurposed to serve as campus buildings. The tour will be followed by a panel discussion with four community leaders on how Ontario’s mid-sized cities are transforming underutilized public spaces. We will follow up these talks with a question period to engage with speakers directly.

This event complements a report, Our City, Our Spaces (PDF, 7.2MB), which explores the adaptive reuse of four spaces in Hamilton, Peterborough, Kitchener and Brantford.

The tour will begin at 6pm and the panel discussion will begin at 7pm. This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome. Please register in advance to attend the tour, the panel, or both.
