Free Public Skating

Visit our picturesque skating rink in Koerner Gardens for our free public skate hours. Bring your own skates or rent a pair of ours.

Skating is on for the 2021-22 season!

We are happy to have you back for a safe and fun season this winter. 

Public skating is available in hour-long timeslots and will resume on January 16th and Sundays to follow. In order to secure your spot, you must register ahead of time (no payment required). Registration opens up each week on Wednesday at 12pm for the following Sunday. Please note that walk-ins will not be accepted for public skating.

Please note the following before you sign up:

  • Our rink is limited to a capacity of 30 skaters at a time.
  • You will be asked to leave the ice approx. 15 minutes prior to the end of your timeslot for skate removal.
  • All skate tying is to be completed on benches outdoors. Indoor access is only available for patrons using the washroom.
  • Masks are mandatory as soon as you enter the rink area.
  • All patrons older than 12 years of age will be required to show proof of vaccination and valid government issued ID to enter the rink.
  • Rentals are available with enhanced cleaning procedures.
  • Rentals ($5) and skate sharpening ($10) are available for purchase (card & cash accepted) upon arrival.
  • Please try and use the washroom before your visit. We encourage participants to use the West side public washrooms near Gradale Academy or the washrooms across from Café Belong. See Site map for details. (note: The Young Welcome Centre is closed.)
  • Please show up 5 min ahead of time and line up at the location indicated on the map below. Please note there is no access to the rink through the Café Belong doors.

The Evergreen Brick Works outdoor skating rink weaves through snow-covered gardens under exposed beams from the roof of the old brick factory. Bring your own skates or rent a pair of ours! Skating is free, and skate rentals are available for $5 a pair. 

You must be wearing skates on the ice. Shoes are not permitted. Hockey sticks, pucks, chairs, and strollers are not permitted on the ice. However, skate assists are allowed and we do have a few to lend out for free. Please note pets are not allowed in Koerner Gardens, where the skating rink is located.

A CSA-approved helmet is mandatory for children under 6 years old. Free helmet rentals are available at the rink for skaters of all ages.

The Koerner Gardens is an indoor space at Evergreen Brick Works and all participants are to follow current Evergreen policies of COVID-19 and vaccinations found here. For more details, contact us through our email skating@evergreen.ca
