Volunteer

Shape a healthier future

Our volunteers are at the heart of so much of what we do. Over 30 years ago, it was a passionate group of volunteers who started us on our journey, and to this day, our work in communities across Canada wouldn’t be possible without them.

We’re continuously grateful and in awe of those who give their time — interacting with their communities and behind the scenes — to bring better spaces to life and leave behind a better world for all the generations to come.

We're Proud to say we have:

Benefits of being an Evergreen volunteer

Real impact

Our work focuses on tangible solutions, so volunteering with us gives you the chance to make a real and lasting impact on your local community.

Personal growth

Our teams work closely with you as a volunteer, ensuring that they’re sharing their expertise and providing guidance and space to learn, grow, and develop news skills.

Connection

Our places are built for connection, and so is our organization. By volunteering, you’ll get to meet incredible, inspiring people who have a shared passion for people and nature.

Health & well-being

Getting active, meeting new people, and connecting with nature are all proven to make you happier and healthier — that’s why we do what I do. Volunteering is a great way to do all three, all while exploring your passions and helping your community.

Perks

Giving back can and should be fun! And with all the free appreciation events, t-shirts, toques, discounts to the Evergreen Garden Market, and access to the Toronto Attractions Council, we make sure it is.

Public markets

Bring people together
Bring people together

Bring people together through nature’s bounty.

Evergreen’s Public Markets program fosters connections to a sustainable food system for all while supporting an equitable regional economy. By creating opportunities where people can experience good food, community, culture and nature while supporting local farmers and makers, we are connecting communities and celebrating the role of nature in our urban ecosystems.

Volunteers in Public Markets are at the heart of engaging and educating the public while ensuring well-run activations. We have activations in all seasons, such as Winter Village, Summer Wednesdays and more.

Urban agriculture & stewardship

Get your hands dirty

Get your hands dirty and grow.

Evergreen’s Regenerative Landscapes programs offer inspiration and learning opportunities while enhancing urban ecosystems, connecting communities to nature, and creating healthier cities. These programs largely take place at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto, and they range from food growing and composting to ecological gardening.

Volunteers in urban agriculture and community stewardship come with all levels of experience and learn through doing.

Festivals & events

Bring life to the community
Bring life to the community

Bring life, learning, and joy to communities.

Throughout the year, Evergreen hosts a series of special events and activations, primarily at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto. These events connect, empower, and educate the public around gardening, the sharing economy, seasonal celebrations, art exhibits, cultural diversity, and the future of our cities.

Volunteers in this area are at the core of creating amazing, engaging experiences for participants. Volunteers will be invited to support events such as Day of the Dead and the Future Cities Canada Summit.

Children & Youth Programs

Spark love of the natural world
Spark love of the natural world

Evergreen’s Children & Youth programs connect children and youth to nature through immersive, active, exploratory activities in Toronto. Programs range from curriculum-based school programs and clubs to informal drop-in nature play in our Children’s Garden and camps in the summer and at other times of the year.

Volunteers in these programs are fundamental to offering dynamic, impactful experiences for youth, their families and educators. Most of these opportunities require that the volunteer team be onboarded and trained prior to the start of the program.
