Garden Circle: Drop-In Gardening Fun

Application Deadline: May 3rd, 2017

Start date/term of position: Running every Wednesday morning 9:00am-12:00pm immediately this Spring 2017 until August for a new weekday drop-in program

Evergreen needs you to help our gardens thrive! Join us this spring every Wednesday beginning May 3rd from 9am-12pm for a new weekday drop-in program called the Garden Circle. This opportunity is geared towards individuals and small groups looking to have greater involvement in caring for our site; from seasonal light touch stewardship to high impact and integrated land-based projects.

Each Wednesday morning you will work with garden staff on growing food plants, stewarding existing gardens and natural spaces, tending to the greenhouse and nurture green areas across the site.

Just drop down when you feel the need to get your hands dirty! Garden Circle welcomes participants of all ages and levels of gardening experience. Everyone's welcome!

No registration required!

What you bring: You want to get your hands dirty and do physical work in small groups. You’re willing to work in some inclement weather. No gardening experience necessary. Family and friend groups are invited to apply.

When and where: Every Wednesday morning from 9am-12pm starting May 3rd until August. Meeting place is at the Watershed Wall located at Evergreen Brick Works 550 Bayview Ave.

Commitment: A minimum of 1, 3hour shift. Participants are invited to join us for a single Garden Circle or series of consecutive occasions over the course of the growing season to see the site develop and work on specific larger ongoing projects alongside trained staff and landscape professionals.

How we'll support you: Training and support provided during garden circle sessions from staff and knowledgeable volunteers.

Perks: You’ll get to work with native and food plant experts and learn through doing. Be a part of a larger community of people striving to green the city and connect with nature, and enjoying eating what you grow together.

Good to know: You’ll need to dress for the weather, as we work through light rain. Sturdy shoes (closed toe) please, as well as a water bottle. Activities will vary depending on the season. Evergreen runs a free shuttle bus to Evergreen Brick Works from Broadview subway station, which carries extended hours on Tuesday. There is also paid parking on-site, bike racks available.

Sign up to join the team and receive Garden Circle updates! As this is a drop-in position, we ask volunteers to sign-up and show up as they are available! Come alone and make some friends, or bring a friend with you! This role is meant to be casual and fun for anyone looking to get their hands dirty.
