Get involved with our Weekend Farmers Market nestled in the heart of Toronto’s ravine system at Evergreen Brick Works. Farmers Market Friends help with vendor set up early in the morning, and tear down at the end of the market. You make the market a beautiful and welcoming place to be by setting up family dining areas, helping guests if they have questions, and monitoring waste systems. Farmers Market Friends collect feedback from farmers, vendors and visitors and are essential to crafting a positive experience.

The Farmers Market is the perfect place to learn about local food systems and taste the seasonal flavours of Ontario!

What you bring:

  • You love food (the growing, cooking, eating, sharing) and are passionate about the local food movement in Toronto.
  • You enjoy early mornings, have solid customer service skills, and great initiative.
  • You’re are an enthusiastic team player and want to meet the people who grow, process, cook and prepare Ontario’s harvest.
  • You are able to lift and move up to 25lbs and can commit to at least two 4-hour shifts per month.

When and where: The market takes place at Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Ave). During the warm-weather season (May to October) the Farmers Market is located outside under the market pavilions. During the cold-weather season (November to May) the Farmers Market moves indoors to the Young Welcome Centre.

The Farmers Market operates year round on Saturdays, and seasonally on Sundays from June to early December.  Farmers Market Friend shifts (for the indoor season) are typically:

  • Saturdays from 7:15am - 11:15am, or 10:15am - 2:30pm
  • Sundays from 9:30am - 12:30pm; or 12:30pm - 4:00pm.

Once you’ve completed orientation you’ll be able to sign up for shifts online via Volunteer Impact.

How we'll support you: You will attend an upcoming orientation (date TBD), meet experienced volunteers and staff who will walk you through the Farmers Market Friend roles and responsibilities, and have access to training on specific topics as available.

Perks: Eat some of the best fresh local food in the city, and meet amazing farmers, chefs, producers and foodies while supporting our local economy.

How to Get Here: Evergreen runs a free shuttle bus from Broadview Subway station with unlisted early-morning trips for staff and volunteers on Saturday mornings. New this year, the 28A Bayview South bus runs 7 days a week from Davisville subway station. There is limited paid parking on-site, but note that all guests, staff, vendors and volunteers must pay for parking. (Proceeds raised from parking help Evergreen deliver accessible and inclusive educational programs.)
