Toronto - Evergreen Brick Works: Assistant Camp Counselor | March Break Camp

Help city kids connect to nature at Evergreen’s March Break Camp!

Assistant Camp Counsellors work alongside camp staff to lead outdoor educational (and fun) programming for campers aged 6-12 years in discovering nature in the city. Activities include urban-outdoor exploration, cooking, building, wild-crafting and interactive outdoor games and activities.

Assistant Camp Counsellors help lead groups of children, prepare for activities, over-see programs and ensure all campers are having a good time discovering the green side of the city.

What you bring. You:

Enjoy and have recent experience working with children.
Are comfortable leading a group, facilitating games/activities and are familiar with the basic aspects of nature and ecology.
Love working outside and are a reliable team player. Outdoor/environmental education and first aid training is an asset but not required.
Are 16 years old or older.

When & where: March Break Camp takes place at Evergreen Brick Works (EBW), 550 Bayview Ave, with programming happening both on-site and in the adjacent City of Toronto park.

Assistant Camp Counsellors must commit to the full week, Monday March 13 to Friday March 17 | 8:30am-4:30pm.

How we’ll support you: There will be a mandatory training session on Saturday, March 11 | 10am-3pm with additional field and program training happening on the job from staff and experienced volunteers. Training includes program overview, safety protocols and game/activity facilitation. All volunteers will receive an Evergreen orientation package.

Perks: You’ll get to work with kids outside and learn more about nature-based education. You’ll inspire young minds and be part of a dynamic team of staff and volunteers. Certificates recognizing the achievement of outdoor education skills will be provided, along with an Evergreen t-shirt!

Good to know:

Prospective volunteers will be contacted for a phone interview.
Successful candidates are required to have an acceptable Police Records Check (We help you with this).
Evergreen runs a free shuttle bus from Broadview Station and Castle Frank is a short walk from EBW.
March Break camp runs rain or shine, and even snow, so be prepared to work in all weather conditions.
There is an opportunity to support the extended care program.
