Evergreen supports communities across Canada in their efforts to increase housing supply and affordability.
Since 2015, Evergreen has provided leadership and support to several housing policy, planning and program initiatives throughout Canada. Through established relationships and the creation of a multi-year Housing Action Lab, Evergreen has brought multiple sectors together, leading to impactful regional and national outcomes – from laneway housing in Toronto to affordable housing incentive programs.
Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. To help foster innovation in housing supply solutions, the Housing Supply Challenge, led by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), encourages residents, stakeholders, and experts from across Canada to propose innovative solutions that help break down the barriers that limit new housing supply.
The Challenge distributes $300 million in funding over five years through various unique rounds. Successful submissions first receive funding to prototype or incubate their proposal, and then finalists will receive additional funding to implement it.
The Housing Supply Challenge Support Program, run by Evergreen, supports applicants of the Housing Supply Challenge by providing guidance, mentorship, and the resources needed to develop and improve their submission. Applicants can learn about the application process, meet with experts who provide guidance on developing their submission, and connect with other potential applicants to learn about their challenges and potential solutions.
“We heard overwhelming agreement that housing should truly be a basic right as it is a building block for health, success, and community vibrancy.”
The My Future Home virtual sessions brought together 130 newcomers, youth, and older adults from across Canada in seven separate workshops to share their vision for their ideal future home in 2040, and the actions they felt necessary to make that future happen.
