Prince Edward County
Prince Edward County has a particularly unique terroir within southern Ontario.
The region’s unique landscape is comprised of a limestone sheet that juts out into Lake Ontario. The area features soil and weather conditions that favour both dairy farming and hardy fruit crops, and although milk and apples have been county mainstays, its recent remarkable growth as a flourishing wine region and culinary tourism destination has opened new opportunities.
Organic and heirloom vegetables, including tomatoes, squash, carrots and specialty vegetables suited to moderately cool temperatures and alkaline soils, have expanded the regional palate. Dairy continues to be a county mainstay, with traditional dairy cattle herds now sharing pasture with sheep and goats, all contributing to a renowned cheese culture that complements the fruit of the vineyards for flocks of discriminating food tourists.Evergreen Program or Community Partners
