Simcoe and Dufferin counties stretch north from the Oak Ridges Moraine to Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment. Agricultural traditions extend back to the first peoples of Huronia, and are carried forward by a vibrant new farming generation.
The spectacular array of vegetables brought to market from the Holland Marsh, a fertile agricultural area roughly 50 kilometres north of Toronto, is indicative of the diverse foods that can be grown in Simcoe and Dufferin counties.
The region also includes specialty products, such as greens, berries, heritage-breed meats and poultry. These grace the regional pantry along with traditional products from the sugar bush, the apple orchard and the forest’s wild and farmed game. Above the Niagara Escarpment, the potato farmers of Dufferin fill a special place at any Ontario table.
