Where does Nature School: Learning Outdoors take place?

Our Nature School program takes place at Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Ave, Toronto, ON M4W 3X8), Don Valley Brick Works Park and around the lower Don Valley. See here for our visitor map.

What does a typical Nature School: Learning Outdoors day look like?

Drop off is between 8:45am-9:00am and pick up is at 3:30pm.

Please keep in mind, this is an outdoor program, and we ask for everyone to dress appropriately for the weather. We may not have the perfect fit, however, if your child needs to borrow a rain/winter jacket, a pair of rain boots or extra clothes, we have spares for your child to borrow!

Is there an extended after care program?

Unfortunately, there will be no after care program offered at this time.

Where can I park?

Evergreen offers a free parking window with a Nature School parking pass, in all parking lots from 8:45am-9:15am and 3:15pm-3:45pm for each Nature School day.

You will receive your parking passes in your welcome email approximately one week prior to your program session date. We highly recommend printing your parking passes prior to arriving at the Brick Works.

For our shuttle bus timings, please see here.

What do you do in inclement weather?

We’re outside as much as possible! We love the outdoors at Evergreen and spend as much time outside as we can. That being said, we do have access to covered and/or indoor spaces at all times and can spend some time inside in cases of extreme weather.

From May-September, should hot conditions arise where levels have reached above a humidex of 37°C, our heat contingency plans will be in effect where parents and toddlers will move indoors, take more shade breaks and water breaks. Families will be reminded and notified via email about any heat warnings from Toronto Public Health for everyone to remember to bring their cap/hat, sunscreen and water bottles.

From October-May, temperatures and winter wind conditions (as wind-chill rating) will be tracked, and levels below a wind-chill of -20 degrees Celsius will trigger our extreme cold policy. If the outside temperature/wind-chill are between -20 and -28 degrees Celsius, parents and toddlers can be outside for approximately 15-20 minutes at a time only. During programming, program facilitators and outdoor educators will supplement outdoor activities with indoor ones at Evergreen Brick Works.

Will lunch be included in the camp fees?

Unfortunately, lunch or meal services will not be provided during camp programming. Campers are asked to bring their own nut-free lunch and are encouraged to bring extra nut-free snacks for each day!

Do you have a Lost & Found office?

Our Camp Office is our lost and found office! The Camp Office is in the alleyway leading up to the Children’s Garden. Please write to camp@evergreen.ca if your camper has forgotten or lost any item at Evergreen Brick Works. See here for our visitor map.

Please note, we strongly encourage campers to avoid bringing items deemed as valuable to camp. Evergreen is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
