What’s On for Families in Winter at Evergreen Brick Works
We know what you’re thinking. School is out – now, how to get the kids out of the house?
Published on December 21, 2016
Evergreen Brick Works’ Winter Village is the city’s best destination for enjoying the great outdoors with the family. So bundle up and head into the valley for these free fun activities.
Whatever the season, the Children’s Garden in Chimney Court is the go-to spot for nature-based play. Winter is no exception with an extra special hands-on community building art project on weekends where kids can build their own Miniature Village out of clay. Workshops are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Be sure to return on Family Day, February 20, 2017 for a tour of these new cities.
For your dose of nature in the city, no better spot than the new Don River Valley Park. Explore on your own to see if you can spot some of the wildlife that call Toronto home in the winter or participate in a family-friendly scavenger hunt. The whole family can sign up for a guided nature walk, and for those with older kids, join one of the Fat Bike Group Rides.
MAKE some memories
There is nothing more Canadian than a little skating and pick-up shinny. And you can do both at the Evergreen Brick Works. Free public skating is on daily on our open-air rink nestled in the old brick factory buildings. You can bring your own skates or rent them on-site. Afterwards grab a drink from the Sipping Container then join in for some ball hockey fun in between the Street Food Market and the Makers Market.
Waffles? Fries? There are so many amazing flavours to discover from around the world at the new weekend Street Food Market. Pick up some local and seasonal food at the Winter Farmers Market on Saturdays or gather a group to enjoy Sunday Family Suppers at Café Belong. More into DIY snacks? Join Evergreen staff as they cook up something new with the kids over the campfire in the Children’s Garden.
We’d love to see what you get up to - share your experiences with us! #WinterVillageTO
