Jawa El Khash: Nature's Algorithm, 2023
Nestled in and around the historic brick press at Evergreen Brick Works, a series of holograms are bringing the plants and animals native to Toronto’s Don Valley to life. Starting on May 3 with an opening reception, the installation will stay on site at the Young Centre until December 31, 2023.
The four holograms depict past, present and imagined future ecosystems present at the Brick Works and invite viewers on a journey of discovery and identification. Species like silver maple, rainbow trout, and monarch butterflies offer a memorial of a once thriving natural space and offer a vision of what can be if future generations repair and coexist with the natural world.
Visitors can visit the installation for free Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
Nature’s Algorithm is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. It is presented in partnership with Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival.
Garden Circle Volunteer Program
Evergreen’s beloved Garden Circle program offers volunteers a hands-on opportunity to get outdoors into nature and to make a meaningful difference to our many gardens and greenspaces at Evergreen Brick Works.
This season, with kind support from, garden-inspired household cleaning brand Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Canada, volunteers will work alongside experts in horticulture, urban agriculture, restoration and ecology to expand their skills and knowledge in these areas through direct, hands-on experiences.
Let's Grow Together
As a charity committed to making spaces livable, green and prosperous, Evergreen is pleased to partner with Plantables to provide an easier way for Ontarians and Quebecers to try out gardening and improve their green thumb while supporting a more local food system!
If you aren't able to make it to the Evergreen Garden Market this month to pick up your seedlings, order your garden plants online and have them delivered right to your door. Enter code EVERGREEN and 10% of your order will be donated to us!
