Summer Wednesdays kick off the new season at Evergreen Brick Works

TORONTO, ONTARIO (June 27, 2017) – It’s a date! Evergreen Brick Works becomes a mid-week evening destination connecting people to local food, culture and nature during Evergreen’s new Summer Wednesdays. Friends and families are invited to experience the longer, warmer nights enjoying some of the city’s tastiest street food while taking in the creative vibes of live art installations presented by Collective Arts Brewing. Evergreen’s outdoor wood oven is fired up by Toronto’s Il Forno Cultura, offering a selection of made-fresh on-site family recipes ranging from savoury to sweet. Summer Wednesdays take place weekly from July 5 to August 31, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The year, Evergreen has partnered with third generation Italian bakers Il Forno Cultura to celebrate food and community. Each week in the Children’s Garden, Il Forno chefs draw from a family history of baking with communal wood-fired ovens, working with the oven’s natural burning cycle and changing temperatures to create delicious dishes ranging from baked breads to delicate pastries. The popular greenspace is open to the public from 5:30 p.m. to dusk letting little hands build, dig, garden and play in nature.

The pavilions at Evergreen Brick Works become the go-to outdoor spot to sit back, relax and savour the tastes from four gourmet food trucks, offering flavours from Latin fusion street food to fresh Canadian fare. (Check online schedule for weekly vendors.) Local craft beer, as well as coffee, tea and juice, are available from the Sipping Container. Craft beer company Collective Arts Brewery, whose beverages and a sampling station are also on offer on-site, bring live art to the space. Each week artists create new work to a soundtrack representative of their piece.

For more energy-burning, the Bike Obstacle Course returns to the south pavilions. Visitors can bring their own or borrow a bike and helmet. Children’s bikes without training wheels are available for ages 6 and up. Balance bikes are available for ages 3 to 5. Parental supervision is required during obstacle course use - open to the public from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bike Works also remains open for all DIY needs.

Food and drink are available for purchase. ATMs on-site.

Evergreen Brick Works is accessible by walking, biking, driving, public transit and by shuttle bus from Broadview Station. Free shuttle bus service is extended to 10:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. For more details, visit these directions.
