Skating returns to Evergreen’s Winter Village in December

Skating, holiday shopping and food trucks start December 1, 2018 at Evergreen Brick Works; free admission

TORONTO, ONTARIO (November 15, 2018) – Evergreen’s Winter Village at Evergreen Brick Works is Toronto’s holiday destination to play, shop and eat locally. This year’s Winter Village features the return of skating and a new indoor space in the TD Future Cities Centre, the site of the recently redeveloped and now fully-enclosed historic kiln building. Visitors can cozy up to campfires, enjoy delicious dishes from local food trucks and meet all their wish list needs at the Evergreen Garden Market and the Holiday Market.

The free Winter Village starts Saturday, December 1, 2018 and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekend in December (including December 24, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), plus December 26 to 31, 2018. All proceeds support Evergreen in making cities flourish. Free public skating is scheduled to begin Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather dependent.)

Play Outdoors:

Evergreen Brick Works is the holiday hub to get active and explore nature in winter. Visitors of all ages can glide their way around the picturesque outdoor skating rink, get their game on the synthetic ice Street Curling rink, or take a wintry hike through the 40-acre Weston Family Quarry Garden and Don Valley Brick Works area. Feeling less active, guests can cozy up indoors with a board game. And for all your family fun, there are winter-themed scavenger hunts around the Brick Works and kid-friendly nature-based activities and crafts in the Children’s Garden.

Shop Local at the Holiday Market:

Shop from talented crafters, artisans and makers from across Ontario at Evergreen’s Winter Village until December 24, 2018. A rotating roster of over 35 local Ontario artisans offer unique holiday décor, handmade gifts and original craftwork for every gift-giving need. The Holiday Market is indoors in the TD Future Cities Centre.

Eat Local:

A selection of local food trucks and vendors serve up a diverse offering of delicious, internationally-inspired food. The rotating list of dishes include Venezuelan arepas, churros, gourmet grilled cheese, burgers, Asian fusion dishes and much more. Visit this schedule for participating vendors. Visitors can toast the season with cold and warm beverages from the Sipping Container, roast s’mores or simply savour the season gathered around campfires.

Chef Brad Long from Café Belong will be providing holiday fare inspiration through free cooking demos from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Saturday during Winter Village. The sessions celebrate the best of Ontario’s produce, providing a chance to discover local farm and foraged food and how to incorporate these winter ingredients into your holiday dishes.

Evergreen Garden Market:

The on-site year-round shop offers gifts for everyone on your list – from food and home décor to books and children’s games and toys made by artisans and small-batch producers in Canada. As of November 14, 2018, Evergreen Garden Market will offer six species of locally-grown, fresh-cut Christmas trees - the popular Fraser Fir and Balsams, traditional White and Scotch Pines, and Norway and Serbian spruces, ranging from 2.5-ft up to 12-14-ft - along with a full offering of wreaths, garland and ornamental potted greenery.

Evergreen Brick Works is accessible by walking, biking, driving, public transit and by shuttle bus from Broadview Station. For more details, consult these directions.
