New Plant Positivity Gardens unveiled at Evergreen Brick Works

TORONTO, ONTARIO (July 26, 2019) – Today, Evergreen in partnership with Aphria Inc., launches the Plant Positivity Gardens, six new garden spaces at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto. Designed as a sensory experience that encourages people to think more deeply about the impact that plants have on their well-being and that of the planet, each garden boasts a different theme, encouraging visitors to gather, reflect, and learn more about the natural world around them. As part of Aphria Inc.’s Plant Positivity platform, the gardens add 50 varieties and more than 2,000 plants, to the 8,000-square-metre garden space on-site at Evergreen Brick Works.

“With support of partners like Aphria Inc., the new Plant Positivity Gardens advance our ongoing investment in urban and natural worlds,” said Geoff Cape, CEO and Founder, Evergreen. “Since its inception, Evergreen’s ecology programs have been at the core of work to create thriving community and educational shared-use spaces. These gardens further establish the Brick Works site as a vibrant destination where people can gather and experience sustainable practices.”

Plant Positivity’s six new garden spaces at Evergreen Brick Works explore the themes of Restore, Develop, Heal, Renew, Thrive and Connect. The new spaces create a connection to nature and community, explore the healing, calming, purifying and cleansing power of plants, as well as illustrating the natural plant cycle.

Plant Positivity is a new component of our existing Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, which will continue to deliver on our commitment to give back to both people and the planet,” says Irwin D. Simon, Interim CEO at Aphria Inc. “Countless studies have shown that increased exposure to plants and green spaces contributes to overall well-being. Through our partnership with Evergreen and the Plant Positivity Gardens at the Brick Works, we hope to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives.”

The Plant Positivity Gardens, designed and managed by Evergreen, are accompanied by a self-guided podcast tour led by Evergreen’s Lead Hand of Urban Agriculture, Isaac Crosby. A series of 5 free workshops will take place in the gardens beginning on August 4th with a Tea Making Workshop. Native plants that are part of Plant Positivity can also be purchased in the Evergreen Garden Market located on the central east side of Evergreen Brick Works with proceeds supporting Evergreen to deliver free programming that can help make your city flourish.
