Winter activities, holiday shopping and food trucks kick off Saturday, December 2, 2017; free admission
TORONTO, ONTARIO (November 13, 2017) – Snow or shine, Evergreen’s Winter Village at Evergreen Brick Works is Toronto’s new holiday destination to play, shop and eat locally and outdoors. This year’s Winter Village features a new line-up of outdoor activities – from Street Curling to Fat Biking – all offering a unique and active way to experience winter in the city. Visitors can cozy up to campfires, enjoy delicious dishes from local food trucks and meet all their wish list needs at the Evergreen Garden Market and the Etsy Holiday Market.
The free Winter Village starts Saturday, December 2, 2017 and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekend in December (including December 24 and 31, 2017), plus weekdays from December 26 to 29, 2017. All proceeds support Evergreen in making cities flourish.
Evergreen Brick Works is the holiday hub to get active and explore nature in winter. Visitors of all ages can get their game on at Toronto’s newest synthetic ice Street Curling rink, take part in ball hockey activities and when it snows test-ride a ski bike. Those looking to go the extra mile can sign up for a group hike through the 40-acre Weston Family Quarry Garden and Don Valley Brick Works area and a fat bike through the Don Valley trail system. Feeling less active, guests can cozy up indoors in a board game lounge. And for all your family fun, there are winter-themed scavenger hunts around the Brick Works and kid-friendly nature-based activities and crafts in the Children’s Garden.
Please note: Evergreen’s Skating Rink is temporarily closed this season as construction continues in the historic Kiln Building, a project that aims to create one of Canada’s only carbon-neutral sites. To learn more about this exciting project, visit Kiln Building Redevelopment.
Shop Local at the Etsy Holiday Market:
Evergreen has teamed up with Etsy Canada to bring talented crafters, artists and makers from across Ontario to the Winter Village on Sundays in December and through December 26 to 31, 2017. A rotating roster of over 35 local Ontario Etsy artisans offer unique holiday décor, handmade gifts and original craftwork for every gift-giving need. The Etsy Holiday Market is indoors in the Young Welcome Centre and BMO Atrium.
A selection of local food trucks serve up a diverse offering of delicious internationally-inspired food. The rotating list of dishes include Venezuelan arepas, crêpes, gourmet grilled cheese, dumplings, stuffed wings, Indian fusion dishes, cubanos and much more. Visit this schedule for participating vendors. Visitors can toast the season with cold and warm beverages from the Sipping Container, roast some s’mores or simply savour the season gathered around campfires.
Evergreen Garden Market:
The on-site year-round shop offers gifts for everyone on your list – from food and home décor to books and children’s games and toys made by artisans and small-batch producers in Canada. As of November 15, 2017, the Garden Market will offer six species of locally-grown, fresh-cut Christmas trees - the popular Fraser Fir and Balsams, traditional White and Scotch Pines, and Norway and Serbian spruces, ranging from 2.5-ft up to 12-14-ft - along with a full offering of wreaths, garland and ornamental potted greenery.
Saturday Farmers Market:
Toronto’s largest farmers’ market, offering the widest variety of local and seasonal food, has moved indoors with a wide variety of winter vendors on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m in the Young Welcome Centre and BMO Atrium.
