One-stop location for local food, drink and artisanal goods, plus outdoor activities and games, starts May 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Toronto, ON - May 3, 2017) – Evergreen swings into summer with new weekend market offerings launching May 6 and 7, 2017 at Evergreen Brick Works. Located in the heart of the Don Valley, the new outdoor Sunday Market is Toronto’s newest destination for friends and families to gather to enjoy locally-made food, drink and artisanal crafts and explore nature in the city - all in one location.
Public markets are a meeting place where chefs, makers, food producers, farmers, customers and visitors can come together and people of all ages can be active, outdoors and engage with others – key ingredients of a healthy city.
Every Sunday Evergreen Brick Works’ outdoor pavilions become home to a local food court where a changing list of 10 GTA chefs and food vendors serve up diverse flavours, including several new brunch items. Pull up a chair or share picnic table to enjoy the foodtruck-style menu, plus a selection of hot and cold beverages from the Sipping Container, featuring alcoholic and non-alcoholic Caesars made with locally-sourced ingredients, Muskoka Brewery, and a rotating selection of local craft breweries.
Visitors can also stroll and shop over 15 craft and artisanal vendors offering products from jams, jellies and spreads to locally-made clothing and unique hand-made jewellery, wood and leather goods. A new ‘lawn game’ area hosts two bocce courts, shuffle board, beanbag toss and Molkky, a centuries-old Finnish throwing game where pins are knocked over for points.
With the new summer season comes the return of Evergreen’s popular outdoor Saturday Farmers Market, with over 25 farmers and producers, offering the city’s widest variety of local and seasonal food in the city, starts May 6, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stay tuned for special celebrations in June to mark its 10th anniversary.
For the more active bunch, Evergreen’s Bike Works opens its doors for DIY Bike Repair Drop-In plus a series of workshops to get you moving on two wheels. Sweet Pete’s monthly women’s mountain bike skills clinics, weekly Saturday group rides and learn-to-ride bike programs kick off on Saturday, May 6, 2017.
Throughout May and June, nature play in the Children’s Garden features special Water Lab Workshops for families to learn more about collecting and caring for water sources. Kid-friendly engineering sessions explore building with clay, willow and other materials from nature.
