Evergreen applauds Mayor John Tory’s call for road tolls to build the transit we need
TORONTO, ONTARIO - November 24, 2016
Today Mayor Tory called for new sustainable revenue tools as a way to fund the transportation infrastructure Toronto so desperately needs. Our city’s existing infrastructure is inadequate to meet current population demands right now, let alone future ones.
”Evergreen’s vision for a flourishing city includes the right mix of mobility options that are accessible, convenient and equitably priced. Mayor Tory’s proposal to fund new transit infrastructure is an important step towards that,” says Geoff Cape, CEO of Evergreen. “After decades of underinvestment in our mobility systems, this new sustainable and dedicated revenue stream is crucial to the health of our city.”
“This bold action will help support modal shift and ensure that communities have access to safe, affordable and convenient transit options,” says Michelle German, Senior Manager of Partnerships and Policy at Evergreen. “At the same time we must ensure that all new infrastructure built is resilient to climate change and can meet our needs for generations to come.”
“We can no longer defer tough decisions on how to fund our region’s mobility and look forward to Mayor Tory’s plan being supported by Toronto City Council in the coming weeks.” Geoff Cape, CEO of Evergreen
