Community Garden Assistant

By deepening the connection between people and nature, and empowering Canadians to take a hands-on approach to their urban environments, Evergreen is improving the health of our cities - now and for the future.
We are seeking a Community Garden Assistant to:

  • Assist in the planning, oversight and implementation of community development and educational events as part of the City Hall Community Garden
  • Deliver outreach programs at selected community events in to promote the site/program
  • Deliver educational workshops/activities to increase public engagement and participation in stewardship
  • Outreach to community groups and agencies, including those serving multicultural communities
  • Train and coach volunteers and conduct recruitment & appreciation activities
  • Work with Evergreen communications department to create outreach materials including posters, brochures, signage and newsletters to support the program
  • Participate in outreach and networking activities including presentations, meetings and community events
  • Field calls and emails concerning the City Hall Community Garden

You have/are:

  • Interested in learning and honing career-related skills in the areas of communication, leadership, and professional development
  • Enrolled in areas including Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Studies, Landscaping, Community Development, and Education
  • Interested in learning more about urban agriculture, naturalized and native horticulture, garden & landscape design, environmental program planning & facilitation and working with and educating the public on issues of sustainability and biodiversity

Due to funding requirements, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act6; and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
