RRSPs RRIFs and Registered Annuities

If you are married, for tax planning purposes you should designate your spouse as the beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF. However, outside of marriage, designating Evergreen as the beneficiary of your registered plan is a simple way to leave a generous gift.

RRSPs and RRIFs can take a tax hit when they are terminated. However, if Evergreen is designated as the beneficiary, your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt for the full value. Any income tax attributable to your registered assets can usually be offset by the charitable tax receipt.

If you have a registered annuity that has a final payout, please consider designating Evergreen as the beneficiary of this annuity.

To designate Evergreen as the beneficiary of your registered account, simply contact your financial institution and request a change of beneficiary form.
